Regarding the 2020 Kia Soul, one of the most common questions we hear is “which trim level should I choose?” It seems like a straightforward question, but when you look at all the available configurations and options, it’s easy to see the issue. At Hagerstown Kia, we serve drivers from all over--from down in Charles Town WV, up to Chambersburg PA, and everywhere in between. So, we know well that there’s no one-size-fits-all answer, but we can at least try to make things a little clearer.

The main thing to consider is needs versus cost. You want to get the most value for your money, but without exceeding your allotted budget. As the base trim, the LX is the least expensive. It doesn’t come with some of the advanced driver aids and safety features of the upper trims, but you can still get touchscreen infotainment, a rear view camera, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration without spending extra.

By moving up just one trim level to the S, you can get the whole gamut of advanced driver aids. So if family safety is your number one concern, this is a good place to start.

The GT-Line carries the same MSRP as the S. It doesn’t have all the driver aids of the S trim, but it has some, and you can option others with the Sunroof package. GT-Line offers 18-inch wheels, fog lights, and a sporty aesthetic.

The X-Line costs a little more, and doesn’t have all the driver aids that the S has, but its ruggedized by features like unique exterior elements, fog lights, a leather wrapped steering wheel, and roof rails for added cargo options.

The EX costs a little more still, but you definitely get what you pay for. The feature set of the EX goes a long way, so if its close to your range, it’s the one we recommend. The EX trim level comes fully loaded with all the driver assistance technologies of the S trim, as well as premium features like:

  • LED daytime running lights
  • Heated mirrors
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • An upgraded 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with voice recognition
  • Satellite and HD radio
  • Navigation
  • Wireless device charging
  • Removable cargo floor and cargo cover
  • Heated seats
  • Dual zone automatic climate control
  • and lots more…

At the very top is the GT-Line Turbo. This is the choice for drivers who require a little more get-up-and-go from their ride. Like the name says, it comes with a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that increase power output to 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. It mixes the aesthetics and style of the GT-Line with the feature set of the EX, and adds in additional features like:

  • A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission
  • LED headlights, taillights, and fog lights
  • Chrome exhaust
  • Forward Collision Avoidance-Assist w/ Pedestrian Detection
  • Smart Cruise Control
